Besides celebrating the best in the rental housing industry, the 16th Annual CAA Greater Fresno Mark of Distinction Awards shined a spotlight on generosity.

The Central Valley Veterans, the main beneficiary of the event, received a $2,500 check from California Apartment Association member HD Supply Multifamily Solutions. The veterans group helps vets with everything from housing to employment to education.

“It’s really wonderful what we can do as a group to help those in need in our communities especially the men and women who served in our military as well as their families,” said Jason Morvay, national accounts manager for HD Supply. “I’m excited about the great work Central Valley Veterans does and I’m glad we were able to help them help others.”

Also in the spirit of giving, CAA Greater Fresno attendees brought more than 200 new, unwrapped toys for the Central Valley Veterans Toy Drive. In addition, Fresno Housing Authority executive director Preston Prince won $311 in the cash raffle and donated the entire amount to the veterans group.

The Mark of Distinction awards were given in 19 categories. Nominees submitted questionnaires that were judged by six panelists from various segments of the community outside the rental housing industry. Winners were presented with a crystal vase that will be displayed at their respective properties.
