Domestic Violence Legislation Pending in State Assembly - A bill is working its way through the State Legislature, Senate Bill 782, authored by Leland Yee (D) San Francisco, that would prohibit a landlord from terminating a tenancy or failing to renew a tenancy based upon an act of domestic violence, sexual assault, or stalking against a tenant or a tenant's household member. CAA has worked with the Senator, and he has agreed to a number of amendments, which CAA believes gives the rental industry guidance when it comes to the issue of domestic violence. Click here for full details.Split Roll – With California entering the third year of budget crises, the Legislature is actively looking at ways to generate much need dollars. Split Roll allows counties to reassess rental and commercial property annually based on its current market value. By reassessing residential rental property on an annual basis, a split roll system would cost California rental housing providers billions in new taxes.
